How to read 1430 military time
Military time is a 24-hour clock written as four digits, with no colon and no AM or PM. The first two digits are the hour, from 00 through 23, and the last two digits are the minutes. 1430 military time splits into 14 hours and 30 minutes. 14 is two hours past noon, and 14 minus 12 is 2, so 1430 is 2:30 PM, which is 2:30 in the afternoon. 1400 military time is 2:00 PM, and 1300 military time is 1:00 PM. The minutes stay the same, and this converter does not round them.
Midnight is 0000, the same moment as 12:00 AM. Noon is 1200, the same moment as 12:00 PM. A schedule sometimes writes the end of a day as 2400. That is still midnight, the same instant as 0000, not an extra hour after 23.
How to read the military time chart
The military time chart on this page has one row for every hour from 00:00 through 23:00. The military column is four digits with no colon, such as 1400. The 24-hour column is that same hour with a colon, such as 14:00. The 12-hour column is the regular clock, such as 2:00 PM. Find the row for the hour, then keep the minutes you started with. If the chart says 1400 is 2:00 PM, then 1430 is 2:30 PM and 1445 is 2:45 PM. The shaded row is the hour of the time you just converted.
0000 on the chart is midnight, and 1200 is noon. 2400 is not a twenty-fifth row, because it names that same midnight at the end of the day. Hours before 1200 are morning times, except 0000 itself. Hours from 1300 on are PM times.
Military time to regular time and back
Army time is another name for this same clock. To turn a morning time into military time, drop the colon and the AM, and put a zero in front when the hour is 1 through 9. 9:30 AM is 0930. 12:00 AM is 0000, not 1200. From 1:00 PM onward, add 12 to the hour: 1:00 PM is 1300 and 2:30 PM is 1430. 12:00 PM stays 1200, because noon is already hour 12. Going back to regular time, an hour from 13 through 23 loses 12 and is labeled PM.
The time converter reads 1400, 14:00, 2:30 PM, and 12:00 AM. 14:60 and 2:70 PM are not times, because minutes stop at 59. 25:00 is not a time either, because the hours stop at 23, aside from 2400 for midnight.
