A short equivalents line marks fractions that name the same amount, including 1/2 = 2/4 = 0.5 = 50%. Fraction, decimal, percent, and strips
The table works as a fraction to decimal chart and a decimal to fraction chart for the fractions that show up on homework: each row is the fraction, the decimal from dividing the top by the bottom, and that amount as a percent. Values that end are trimmed, so 1/8 is 0.125 and 12.5%, 1/2 is 0.5 and 50%, and 1/4 is 0.25 and 25%. Values that repeat are rounded, so 2/3 is about 0.667 and 66.7%, and 1/3 is about 0.333 and 33.3%.
Under the table, fractions that match are written as one amount, including 1/2 = 2/4 = 3/6 = 4/8 = 5/10 = 6/12 = 0.5 = 50%. What fractions are on the chart?
The rows are 1/2, 1/3, 2/3, 1/4, 3/4, 1/5, 2/5, 3/5, 4/5, 1/6, 5/6, 1/8, 3/8, 5/8, 7/8, 1/10, and 1/12. Each row has a decimal and a percent. Equivalent fractions such as 2/4 appear on the line under the table, and again beside the matching row, because they name an amount the chart already lists.
What is 1/8 as a decimal and a percent?
1/8 is 0.125, which is 12.5%. The other eighths follow the same pattern: 3/8 is 0.375 and 37.5%, 5/8 is 0.625 and 62.5%, and 7/8 is 0.875 and 87.5%.
Why is 2/3 shown as about 0.667 and 66.7%?
2 divided by 3 is 0.666... with the 6 repeating, so the chart rounds it to three decimal places, 0.667, and to one decimal place as a percent, 66.7%. The same rounding gives 1/3 as about 0.333 and 33.3%, 1/6 as about 0.167 and 16.7%, 5/6 as about 0.833 and 83.3%, and 1/12 as about 0.083 and 8.3%.
How do fraction strips and printing work?
Each strip is one whole divided into equal cells, and every cell is labeled with that unit fraction, such as 1/4 on each part of the fourths strip. Halves, thirds, fourths, sixths, and eighths start checked, along with the one-whole bar, and you can add fifths, tenths, and twelfths.
