The top right quarter shows a coconut palm, representing the country's abundant natural resources. The bottom left quarter displays a dove carrying an olive branch, symbolizing peace. And the bottom right quarter features a bunch of bananas, representing Fiji's tropical climate and fertile land. Beneath the shield is a ribbon with the national motto ""Rerevaka na Kalou ka Doka na Tui"" written in Fijian. It translates to ""Fear God and honor the Queen,"" reflecting Fiji's religious and monarchical traditions. The current design of the flag was adopted on October 10, 1970, when Fiji gained independence from British rule. However, it underwent a slight modification in 2013. Prior to 2013, the coat of arms on the flag featured a European-style helmet above the shield. This was replaced with a Polynesian-style canoe, known as a drua, to better represent Fiji's indigenous culture. The flag of Fiji is a symbol of national pride and unity.
