What counts as a sentence?
A sentence ends at a period, exclamation mark, or question mark when a space, a line break, or the end of the text follows. Words with no ending mark still count as one sentence. Punctuation alone, such as an ellipsis with no words, counts as zero. The Word Counter splits at every period, exclamation mark, or question mark and counts an emoji as more than one character, so its numbers can differ from this page for text with abbreviations, decimals, or emoji.
Do Dr. and 3.14 add extra sentences?
No. Periods in Mr., Mrs., Dr., Ms., e.g., and i.e. are not sentence endings, and neither is the dot in a decimal such as 3.14. A line that contains those and then one closing period is still a single sentence.
How many pages will these words fill?
Divide the word count by 250 for a double-spaced page or by 500 for a single-spaced page. The result is shown to one decimal place. The rates assume a typical school page, about 12-point type with one-inch margins, so a different font or margin changes the printed length.
How many sentences is 300 words?
There is no fixed sentence count, because some sentences are long and some are short. Paste the passage to count the sentences that are actually there. Three hundred words is 1.2 double-spaced pages or 0.6 single-spaced pages at 250 and 500 words per page.
