Building a quiz from a blank page

Start with the quiz title, then type your first question and fill in the answer choices below it. Every new question starts with four choices labelled A to D, which suits most classroom use. You can add a fifth and sixth choice with the plus button, or remove choices down to a minimum of two if you want a simpler format for younger readers. The labels renumber themselves, so you never end up with a gap where C used to be.

Mark the correct answer by selecting the radio button beside it. This is the step people most often forget, and it is what makes the answer key work later. If you delete the choice that was marked correct, the selection falls back to choice A, so it is worth a quick check before you generate.

Add as many questions as you need with the Add Question button. There is no cap, though a quiz of ten to twenty questions is usually the practical limit for a single sheet once you print it. When you are done, click Generate Quiz. Any question with an empty question line or a blank answer choice is skipped rather than printed half-finished, so if a question goes missing from the preview, that is why.

The student copy and the answer key

Generating produces two versions of the same quiz, switched with the Quiz and Answer Key tabs above the preview. The student copy shows the questions and lettered choices with nothing marked. The answer key shows the identical layout with the correct choice given a tinted background, bold text and a tick in the margin, plus an Answer Key badge next to the title so a stack of printouts never gets mixed up on a desk.

Because both versions come from the same question list, the numbering always lines up. That matters when you are marking thirty papers and want to run your eye down the key rather than re-read each question. If you spot a mistake after generating, edit the question above and press Regenerate, and both the quiz and the key update together.

Layout options before you print

Two checkboxes control the student-facing furniture. Name and Date fields add two ruled blanks under the title for pupils to fill in. The score box adds a bordered strip at the foot of the quiz reading Score: ___ / n, where n is the number of questions that actually made it onto the page. Both are on by default, and both are worth turning off if you are printing a self-check practice test rather than something you will collect.

Five colour themes change the heading rule, question numbers and answer-key highlight: Classic in grey, Ocean in blue, Forest in green, Sunset in orange and Lavender in purple. Classic prints cleanly in black and white, which is what most school photocopiers will do to it anyway. The coloured themes are more useful on screen or when you have a colour printer and want subject-coded quizzes that are easy to tell apart in a folder.

Printing, sharing and starting from a sample

Print Quiz opens a clean print window with the quiz set in Arial at a readable size, 15mm page margins and a rule that stops a question splitting across two pages. Longer quizzes simply flow onto a second sheet with whole questions intact. When the Answer Key tab is showing, the same button prints the key instead, so you can run off one key and thirty student copies from the same setup.

Download Image saves the preview as a PNG, named after your quiz title, with the answer key version getting a suffix so the two files are easy to tell apart. That is the version to use if you are pasting the quiz into a slide, a worksheet you are assembling elsewhere, or a message to parents.

Everything stays editable, so a common shortcut is to load the sample nearest your topic, keep the structure and rewrite the questions.
