<description>[...] On January 27-28 the 2012 Pearson Global Research Conference was held in Western Australia.  The theme of this year’s conference was the role of technology and assessment in system-wide improvement.  The conference aimed to foster discussions about how technologies can be used strategically to improve teaching and learning at broad, system-wide levels.  The ATC21S project was represented at the conference by Patrick Griffin, ATC21S Executive Director, who gave a thematic talk titled “Challenges of Internet based collaborative problem solving assessment.” The presentation addressed some of the challenges involved with assessing collaborative problem solving (CPS) skills, such as the definition in delivery of the tasks; managing how schools and students access the tasks remotely; coding and calibrating the students’ performance against the tasks; and providing reports that encourage teaching to the CPS construct. The materials that need to be made available to teachers were also discussed.  The presentation was followed by our recent video illustrating the ATC21S CPS tasks and children&#8217;s interaction with them.
